New Mystics Facility two blocks from EQ Flats
Events D.C. is out with renderings of the new Washington Wizards practice facility in Congress Heights.
The $65 million venue, which will also host home games for the Washington Mystics as well as concerts and other events, is expected to open in 2018 on the St. Elizabeths East campus.
Events D.C., the city’s convention and sports authority, will control and manage the facility. It is being designed by Rossetti Architects and Marshall Moya Design.
Events D.C. proposed a number of upgrades to the facility in July, which increased the venue’s price tag by about $10 million.
Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Wizards and Mystics, has pledged about $4.5 million for the venue’s construction.
The Wizards' practice facility, which will take up about 38 percent of the venue, will be separated from the arena elements, according to The Washington Post.
